"5 Things My Natural Hair Does, Naturally"

My hair has been in its natural kinky state for over 30 years, but its only recently that it has truly been natural.  For just over a year, I’ve maintained my natural hair environment by using the “water only method for cleaning and maintenance. This hair care regimen, has also lead to not using any commercial hair products, such as shampoos, conditioners or gels.  My hair is now what I consider really natural, and here are five things my natural hair does naturally.

The first thing my hair now does naturally is it sheds water very quickly, and dries faster after “water washing” now that it is no longer striped of its natural coating of sebum, because I don’t use shampoo or conditioner.

The second thing that naturally happens with my hair is based on its  full sebum coverage, which keeps my hair strands moisturized and protected from dirt and grime, so now my hair is naturally stronger and has a nice natural sheen.

The third thing my natural hair does naturally, is it consistently maintains hair strands definition in concentric coils, that are following a known natural pattern that is indicative of my ethnic heritage, and its really easy to manage.

The fourth natural thing my natural hair now does is grow, now that I’m not smothering it with all kinds of supposedly beneficial products, or using blow dryers or perming products, my hair seems to be growing quite nicely.

The fifth thing my natural hair does naturally is complement  me, and makes me feel good. My hair is no longer an issue, its now an impressive asset, that I love flaunting daily.

Its truly a great time in history, where the natural expression and identity of ethnic variances can be boldly projected. I don’t have to hide, or alter my hair to suit the idea of “good hair” set by anyone else. My natural hair is naturally GOOD.

But godliness with contentment is great gain.                  1Timothy 6:6

Really Loving My Hair!!!!!!

I've been natural with my hair presentation for most of my adult life, beginning with a shaved head when I graduated from high school.  As I progressed into adulthood and took sole responsibility for my image, I moved from shaved head to TWA and then just unprocessed hair, from age thirty to fifty I sported hip length locs. Although my hair was in its natural state, my care was commercial abusive, without me really realizing how my care was fighting against true easy to manage hair care.  Check out  Water Washing Only for Manageable Hair ,its me talking about how simple it really is to have great hair. Here are a few pics of my true hair as I progress into water only washing hair care. Enjoy!
My hair with no manipulation, about 2 months into water washing only.

The Mister and I, hair is growing out of my initial TWA cut, so I'm patting it into a tight shape.

I've really picked my hair out with a hair pick and you can see the growth, still only water washing.

This is how I wear my hair to work, very full and dense "fro".
For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.

Creating Fabric from Ready-Made Clothing

This is what I really like to do, make fabric from ready to wear items. I am always buying clothing pieces more for the amount of fabric I can get out a item, then just to remake the item. This is one of my reclaimed fabric remakes from my Youtube channel.

"The Three Faces of Me"

You just wake up one day and look around and wonder just who you are and what you are trying to do----well, that’s me today. I’m starting new with my sewing business in a new place (San Antonio, TX), somewhere I really don’t have a foundation of customers. Mind you, I’ve been in San Antonio for just over 2 years, and have been working (I mean really work’n) for a local retailer. The pay was good, advancement was quick and steady, but the PASSION was not there. So what do I do, I stop and look at myself for the real ME. I am a working lady, who doesn’t mind hustling, but I see it took me almost three years to see that what I WAS doing WAS my PASSION. I’m looking back to look forward, check out the photo’s.  I look at fashion and determine style focuses everyday, and have just noticed how my own interpretation of fashion, to project an original personal style has been so varied.

Just cut my "locs" of 30 years, so I would fit in on the job!
A transition look, just loving the natural texture of my hair.
Today, feeling at ease as I  embrace my TRUE self.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give an expected end.      Jer. 29:11

My Cyber Birth

I’ve made some new friends, well what I’m saying is, I joined a couple of online social communities, one for women in business and another for home-based business owners.  I took my time in choosing which groups to join, because I see this social move online as a big step forward in socialization as being outside of my comfort zone. Being sociable has never been one of my good points, since I was always the last one picked for anything. Girls considered me dull, and boys just never saw me, yes, and I never got asked to the prom either. Now this is not to say I’ve never had any friends, it’s to say they were limited. How does one get friends, but by personal social interaction, (this discounts Pen Pals---am I dating myself?) you meet people in the neighborhood---friend; you meet people at school---friend; you meet people at church, work, you get the picture.

Well this is how my acquaintance with friendships has gone---neighborhood, school, church, work, college, marriage, and empty-nest time.  I’ve had friendships with the parents of my children’s friends, and then as they grew (my children), friendships were garnered from people met at parent groups, LSO, PTA, and community service organizations. Anywhere I was needed in my children’s lives or at church, for these were my social outlet places I made or tried to make friends. The children grew up and as they left home, it seems my various friendships went with them.

So I started a business, my new child, and now I have new friends. There is the UPS man, the postal person, the office supply salesperson and of course my vendors. Believe me I know how many children my UPS delivery person has, which child rules the house and their names. But there is still something lacking---so I’ve signed up for online friends. Now it seems with each new day I get invites to be someone’s friend---I don’t know how this is going to pan out. I’ve only accepted a few invites because I don’t want to spread myself to thin; I only want a few friends.  If we really think about it, that’s all one can honestly handle.
